SOUND DESIGN SAMPLES
"The 60-Second Symphony" was composed as part of my sound design for a 2011 production of EURYDICE by Sarah Ruhl. The play is an interpretation of the Greek myth of Orpheus, in which his wife Eurydice is killed and falls to the Underworld, losing her memory in the process, and Orpheus descends to rescue her. Interpreted into the 1950's, the Opening begins in the Underworld, awaiting its prey, before moving to the beach to find our two protagonists. After her fall, the arrival of the petulant and ego-maniacal Lord of the Underworld is signaled through the power of rock. In the Finale, Orpheus finally arrives via elevator in the Underworld, but like his wife succumbs to its memory-sapping waters. They both become lost to its depths.
